Mercedes Cabeza de Vaca
In the heart of the Rastro de Madrid, that mythical area of auctioneers, flea markets and antique dealers is the Mercedes Cabeza de Vaca store that already has its own history. Open for more than 30 years, it radiates the charm that only fans can create. Even before opening her own business, Mercedes regularly came to the Rastro as a collector, buyer and lover of curiosities and objects from other times that could only be found in this particular market. And it is this hobby that is reflected in his shop: a museum for some, a living room for others, it has an unmistakable atmosphere. The most striking thing is undoubtedly the old dolls, those spectacular toys from the end of the century that illustrate more than other objects everything that has changed in these hundred years. Lamps, furniture and vintage fabrics accompany and serve as a setting for the daughters of the house.
Martin Schatzmann
The same fondness for rare objects, ancient curiosities and precious woods attracted Martin to the Rastro where he met Mercedes more than 15 years ago. From a co-fan he became a friend, as well as a collaborator and restaurateur in the store. Today, he not only runs the store full time since Mercedes' retirement, but also takes care of bringing the objects of yesteryear to the cyber-space with the online store, thus prepared for the future.
Mercedes continues to come to Rastro as a consultant and because she continues to be the heart of the store.
